45 Things

I turned 45 this year and here's 45 Things I think/believe/know. Some are works in progress for certain.
  1. Attitude determines outcome.
  2. A pile of cash is never wrong. Save your money.
  3. The years go faster than the days.
  4. Don’t try to change others, change yourself.
  5. You don’t need alcohol or drugs to have fun.
  6. But don’t be a prude.
  7. Check on your friends.
  8. Write it down.
  9. A clean house is good for the soul.
  10. Listen to records.
  11. Subscribe to magazines or they’ll die.
  12. Go for a walk every day.
  13. Touch a tree trunk on your walk.
  14. Make art, even if it’s not good.
  15. Forgive yourself, no one can do it for you.
  16. Meditate, it really is that good.
  17. Don’t be too serious.
  18. Make your own list.
  19. Before you say something mean, don’t. Whatever it is isn’t worth it.
  20. Make a playlist of the songs you loved as a teenager, play it when you’re low.
  21. Only so much room in your mind, careful who you let live there.
  22. Every week you should meet someone for coffee or lunch.
  23. It’s ok if your job isn’t your passion.
  24. Play an instrument, sing if you can’t play. Dance either way.
  25. Let your kids be who they are.
  26. Go easy on social media.
  27. They know how you feel about them, but tell them anyway.
  28. Don’t watch the news, they make money from your fear.
  29. Put down the phone once in a while, whatever it is will be there when you pick it back up.
  30. Do good work, but unplug at quitting time.
  31. Want happiness? Learn the difference between Having and Being.
  32. Without inner change, there’s no outer change.
  33. Support the artists you love.
  34. Maybe shop local once in a while.
  35. Read. A lot.
  36. Be on time.
  37. Take care of your knees.
  38. Get a bird feeder.
  39. Play a sport, even if it’s just for kicks.
  40. Tip well.
  41. Hug your friends and family.
  42. Learn how to make something. You’ll feel a ton of pride when you use it.
  43. Tell your kids stories about you at their age. Especially the embarrassing ones.
  44. Offer advice only when asked.
  45. Call your mom.
