Week 5 at home..
As the Coronavirus works its way around the globe, my family are at home. We're nearing the end of Week 5. Compared to some we're doing well. My wife and I are both still getting paid. I'm still working every day just from home. She's a school teacher, she has some days she has to work, others she doesn't. I truly consider myself fortunate, my kids are the perfect age for this. Both are old enough to entertain themselves and understand what's going on without being old enough to have the existential crisis.
What have I been doing to stay sane? Well like I said, I have to work every day. If I didn't have that I'd probably go nuts. We've had good weather for the most part so every day I go to a nearby park and walk at lunch. I've started meditating regularly. I'm reading a lot, practicing guitar and Uke. Basically I just try to limit the time I have to just sit and think aka build anxiety. So far it's working. Here's hoping we can loosen up a little here soon.
What we're finding out is that the people we thought were important, aren't. The ones we thought weren't, are. Now we always thought medical professionals were important, but grocery workers? Delivery people? Cleaning crew?
I saw a tweet that said 'if capitalism is so great, then why does socialism have to rescue it every decade?' Good question.
How about higher wages for those in the service industry?
How about airlines and cruise-lines save a pile of cash and not send it all to shareholders?
How about healthcare?
